Given:

instruction says to mix 5 parts of orange juice with 2 parts of lemonade.

To Find:

The amount of fizzy drink he can make with 300 ml of orange juice and 200 ml of lemonade.

Solution

Find the ratio of orange juice to lemonade:

orange juice to lemonade = 5 : 2

Find the amount of drink that can be made with 300 ml of orange juice:

orange juice to lemonade = 5 : 2

Orange juice = 5x

Lemonade = 2x

Find 1x:

5x = 300 ml

1 x = 300 ÷ 5

1 x = 60

Find amount of lemonade needed:

2x = 60 x 2

2x = 120

So 300ml of orange juice requires 120 ml of lemonade

Find the amount of drink made:

Drink = 300 + 120

Drink = 420 ml

Answer: 420 ml of the fizzy drink
