Given - Value of coins = 2 and 5

Total number of coins = 16

Total amount of money = Rs. 50

Find - Number of 2 and 5 coins

Solution - Let the number of 2 coins be x. So, number of 5 coins will be (16 - x).

Now, writing the information in statement in mathematical form -

2x + 5(16 - x) = 50

2x + 80 - 5x = 50

-3x = -30

x = 10

Therefore, number of 2 coins is 2x

Number of 2 coins = 20

And, number of 5 coins = (16 - x)

Number of 5 coins = (16 - 10)

Number of 5 coins = 6

Thus, number of 2 and 5 coins are 10 and 6.

Validating the answer -

2x + 5(16 - x) = 50

Keeping the value of x in above expression -

2*10 + 5(16 - 10) = 50

20 + 5*6 = 50

20 + 30 = 50

50 = 50

As, LHS equals RHS, value of x is correct.
