Shatabdi Express has a capacity of 500 seats of which 10% are in the Executive class and the rest are chairs. During one journey, the train was booked to 85% of its capacity. If executive class was booked to 96% of its capacity, then how many chairs were empty during that journey?

Total seats = 500
seats in executive class E = 10% of 500 = 50
seats in chairs class C = 500-50 = 450

Total number of Booked seats in train = 85% = 85*500/100 = 425  = B
this includes some booked seats in both classes.
number of executive class seats booked = 96% = 96/100 * E = 96* 50/100 = 48
So number of chairs booked = B - 48 = 425 - 48 = 377
So number of chairs empty = C - 377 = 450  - 377 = 73
% of chairs empyt during journey = 73 * 100/450 = 16.22 %

total chair = 500
executive chair = 10% of 500 = 50
rest chair = 450
according to question ,
total booked chair = 85% of total chair(500)=425
  total booked executive chair = 96% of its capacity(50) = 48
 so total booked rest chair = 425-48 = 377
therefore total empty chairs = 75
total executive empty chairs = 2
total rest empty chairs = 73
