General rules considered while changing a direct speech to indirect speech:
- Present perfect tense replaced with past perfect tense, present continuous to past continuous, present perfect to past perfect and simple present to simple past.
- Simple past tense changes to past perfect and past continuous to past perfect.
- No conjunction is used if the sentence in direct speech begins with a question.
- Can changes to could, may to might and must change to had to / would have to.
- The first person changes as per the subject of direct speech.
