After 5 yrs.
x+5=y+5
x+5=3(y+5)
x+5=3y+15
x-3y=10..........[2]
On solving eq. 1 and 2
y=10 x=40
So age of mother is 40 years
and age of son is 10 years

Let the present age of Shikhar be x years

So, the present age of his Mother be 4x years

After 5-years -

Shikhar's age = (x + 5) years

His Mother's age = (4x + 5) years

According to Question,

(4x + 5) = 3(x + 5)

⇒ 4x + 5 = 3x + 15

⇒ 4x - 3x = 15 - 5

⇒ x = 10

Required Ages -

Shikhar's age = x = 10 years

His Mother's age = 4x = 4(10) = 40 years

Hence, the present age of Shikhar is 10 years and his mother's present age is 40 years
