Shivansh has a gift placed in a cuboidal box of dimensions 80cm,40cm and 20cm. He

wants to cover the box nicely to present it to his friend on his birthday. Instead of using

coloured paper, he decided to use squared papers of old magazines of side 40cm each. How

many square sheets of magazines are required? Also, find the volume of the cuboidal box.

Answer:

volume =80×40×20

=64000

area of sheet required=surface area of box=2(80×50+40×20+20×80)

=2(4000+800+1600)

=2×6400=12800

no. of square sheets required=12800÷40÷40=8

Answer:

  • 7 square sheets of magazines
  • 64,000 cm² is the volume of the box

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

  • Length of the box (l) = 80 cm
  • Breadth of the box (b) = 40 cm
  • Height of the box (h) = 20 cm
  • Side of the square papers = 40 cm

To find:

  • Number of square sheets required
  • Volume of the cuboidal box

Method to find:

First, we need to find the T.S.A (Total Surface Area) of the box, as the wrapping paper will cover all the faces.

T.S.A of a cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl)

⇒ T.S.A = 2(3200 + 800 + 1600)

⇒ T.S.A = 2(5600)

T.S.A = 11,200 cm²

Now, we need to find the area of the square sheet.

Area of a square = (Side)²

⇒ Area = 40²

Area = 1600 cm²

Hence, the required number of square sheets will be:

Number of square sheets = (T.S.A of cuboid) / (area of one square sheet)

⇒ 11200cm² / 1600cm²

To find the volume of the cuboidal box,

Volume = l * b * h

⇒ Volume = 80 * 40 * 20

Volume = 64,000 cm² = 6.4 m²

Hope it helps!
