Swach Bharat Abhiyan SBA or Clean India is
a nation wide campaign launched by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi on 2nd Oct,
2014. It is done in memory of Gandhiji's wishes that rural people learn good
ways of life and sanitation. It is to help poor and rural people to live better
and healthier lives.
The aim of the Abhiyaan is to give every person access to
1. Sanitation facilities (including
toilets), solid and liquid waste disposal systems, village
cleanliness.
2. Safe and adequate drinking water supply.
It is more than three years now. Many celebrities, children and
government employees participated in the campaign. Thousands of crores of funds
are allocated to this campaign. A separate organization is set up. Rewards are
announced. Municipalities have a big role to play in this.
A separate app is developed for Mobile phones and on the web too.
People could interact and complain directly using these apps. This campaign is
under the ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
Many thousands and thousands of toilets are constructed in rural
areas and small towns in this campaign. But unfortunately perhaps water supply
to the toilets is not available in many.
