Born in a Gujarati family of Vadnagar , Modi helped his father in selling tea in his childhood, and later started his own stall. He joined the RSS at the age of eight, with whom he has been associated for a long time. After graduation, he left his house. Modi traveled across India for two years, and visited many religious centers. After returning to Gujarat and moved to Ahmedabad in 1969 or 1970 . In 1971 he became a full-time worker for RSS In 1975, during the state of emergency , he had to hide for some time. In 1985, he joined BJP and worked in several posts within the party hierarchy till 2001, from where he gradually reached the post of Secretary.
Following Gujarat's earthquake 2001 , (earthquake in Bhuj), Narendra Modi was appointed Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 due to the poor health and poor public image of then Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel of Gujarat. Modi was soon elected to the Legislative Assembly. His administration was considered harsh in the 2002 Gujarat riots, during which time his conduct was criticized. However, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court has found no evidence to initiate proceedings of the prosecution . As Chief Minister, his policies were credited for encouraging economic development .
Under his leadership, India's main opposition party , the Bharatiya Janata Party 's 2014 election received fought and 282 seats phenomenal success. As an MP , he contested from the cultural city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and from Vadodara parliamentary constituency of his hometown of Gujarat and won both the seats.
Earlier, he was the 14th Chief Minister of Gujarat state . Because of his work, the people of Gujarat chose the Chief Minister for four consecutive times (from 2001 to 2014). Narendra Modi is known as a development man, and a master's degree in political science from Gujarat University, and is currently among the most popular leaders in the country. Narendra Modi ji joined the BJP in 1985 and held several positions within the party hierarchy until 2001, from where he gradually rose to the rank of Secretary in the BJP.
