1. Persome is a short tempered and innocent too,worries about his brother the bishop, as he is late to his home.The reason behind it was off to marie ( their maid )'so home as her mom was not feeling well. Persome claimed that poor person pretend to be sick as to meet bishop and get money.
2. Persome was also angry about the salt cellar which is made up of silver and which is sold by bishop to mere gringoire as she was not able to afford for her house rent.
3. Bishop met a stranger who entered his house and he is a theif who was badly treated by the police in the prison and now he was escaped from the prison.Now he is meant to be a wild beast as he was very hungry and asked rudely for food. After he was fed ,Bishop tried to convert his soul but he was not ready to believe in any religion.
4. Bishop asked his flashback how he was prisoned and he answered him with description of his total conversion from a poor man to a wild beast. He said he was from a poor family and even he and his wife couldn't afford food. At the time his wife was ill so he decided to steal money to buy food but police caught him and punished him. Next day he heard a news that his wife was no more.
5. Bishop heard his story and felt it. Now the theif aimed to steal Bishop's candlesticks, but Bishop noticed and said him that his mother gave him in her remembrance after her death. Also when Bishop was not giving attention he stealed and ran away. Almost their the police caught him again in suspection of Bishop's candlesticks and take him there but Bishop said them that he was his friend .So he gave those candle sticks as a gift.
6. The theif realised his mistakes and got blessings from Bishop and Bishop gave him the candlesticks to start a new life in Paris as the prisoner wished.
