Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd Octobar, 1869, at Porbandar, in Gujarat. His father was the Diwan of Porbandar. Mohandas left for England in 1888 to study law and after completing his studies, he went to Natal, in South Africa, to work in a law firm.

In South Africa, Gandhiji like many other Indians and Africans, faced severe racial discrimination. The events heire inspired him to fight against injustice and discrimination.

Gandhiji founded the Natal Indian Congress in 1894, which organised the Indian community of South Africa. He developed a novel method of mass agitation called Satyagraha.
