Akbar was the strongest of India's Mughal emperors between 1556 to 1605. He reigned and expanded control over most of the 'Indian subcontinent'. To maintain his empire's cohesion, Akbar introduced policies that secured the allegiance of his realm's non-Muslim populations
- Throughout his rule, the 'Mughal Empire' stretched from the Himalayas in the north to the Vindhyas in the south and the Hindu Kush in the northwest to the 'Brahmaputra River' in the east to most of the Indian subcontinent.
- He nullified Hindus ' special tax on pilgrimages in 1563 and completely stopped the annual tax or jizya paid by non-Muslims in 1564.
