-The scheme was launched on December 2000.
-Under the scheme,one crore members of families below poverty line were identified & were given essential food grains at highly subsidized rates.
-Wheat was given at Rs 2 per kg & rice was given at Rs 3 per kg.
The scheme has been expanded with 50,000 families extra twice in June 2003 & August 2004.

➡Antyodaya Anna Yozana (AAY) was launched in December 2000.
➡ One crore of the poorest among the BPL families were covered under the targeted PDS.
➡ 25 kg of foodgrains were made available to each eligible family at a highly subsidised rate of 2 rupees per kg for wheat and 3 rupees per kg for rice.
➡This quantity has been enhanced from 25 kg to 35 kg with effect from April 2002.
➡Now, almost two crore families are covered under this scheme.
