Human rights in India

Human rights in India is an issue complicated by the country's large size & population, widespread poverty, lack of proper education & its diverse culture, even though being the world's largest sovereign, secular, democratic republic. The Constitution of India provides for Fundamental rights, which include freedom of religion. Clauses also provide for freedom of speech, as well as separation of executive and judiciary and freedom of movement within the country and abroad. The country also has an independent judiciary[1][2]as well as bodies to look into issues of human rights.[3]

Note on civil rights violations:

  • Civil rights violations has in fact increased after India attained independence. Our constitution has guaranteed each of its citizen's seven major fundamental rights. But they are practically at the paper, not in reality.
  • Child labor is still prevalent in India in spite of strict rules. Media people and common people are arrested, sometimes killed for expressing their opinions against the government or big shots in the society which is against the freedom to speech.
