In Persian Din-i ilahi means 'Religion of God'. It was a syncretic religion, that is a religion combined from the beliefs of two or more religious faiths, started by the Mughal emperor Akbar the Great in 1582 AD. The aim of the emperor was to reconcile the differences among his subjects by combining the best of all the religions practised at the time.
