NOTE ON FORMATION OF NORTHERN PLAINS:
1) The himalayan uplift out of Tethys sea and subsistence of the northern flank of the peninsular plateau results- formation of large basin.
2) Time passes and this depression got filled with decomposition of sediments by the rivers flowing from mountains-north and the peninsular plateau-south
3) A flat land of extensive alluvial deposit led to formation of northern plains.
4) Also this northern plain is formed by the interplay of 3 major river system (Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra)
5) Decomposition of alluvium formed this fertile land.
6) This is rich in soil cover combined with adequate water supply and favourable climatic conditions so that's why it is agriculturally a very productive part of india
