Metals are those whose atoms have extra electrons and are able to leave them.
But non-metals are those who collect those electrons.(This definition is the atomic level of metals and non metals)
Apart from this Metals and Non metals have various properties...if u need them u can make another question
hope it helps u

Heya ☺
Metals
• They all are solids , except mercury , which is a liquid.
• They generally have high melting and boiling points.
• They have high density.
• They are hard with exceptions of sodium and potassium.
• They posses a natural shine.
• They are malleable and ductile.
• They have high tensile strength.
• They are good thermal and electrical conductors.
• They are sonorous.
Non - metals
• They may be solid , liquid or gaseous.
• They generally have low melting and boiling points.
• They have low density.
• They are not hard , except diamond.
• They have a dull appearance.
• They are not malleable and ductile. They are brittle.
• They do not have tensile strength.
• They are non - conductors except graphite.
• They are not sonorous.
Thanks
