NREGA stands for National Rural Employment Gurantee Act 2005 .

Under this act ,

  1. All those who are able  to , and are in need of work are guranteed 100 days of employment in a year by the government .
  2. The government will give unemployment allowances to the people , if it fails in its duty to provide employment .
  3. The types of work that would in future help to increase the production from land that will be given preference under the Act .
  4. Now it is called as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employmet Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) .
