Phylum Porifera:-

It consists of most primitive multicellular animals called sponges. They are also known as pore bearers.

Habit & Habitat: They are mainly marine, aquatic animals. They are sedentary.

Body form: Sponges porous body wall. The pores or holes allow water to pass through this animal.

Level of organization: They show cellular level of organisation.

Germ layers: The sponges are diploblastic which means they have 2

germs layer.

Symmetry: They are asymmetrical which means no definite shape.

Body wall: Consists of Pinacoderm, Choanoderm and Mesohyl layer.

Circulatory system: Circulatory system is absent.

Respiratory system: Absent.

Excretory system: Absent.

Reproductive system: Asexual reproduction ( Fregmentation, Gemmules).

Fertilization: Internal.

Celom: Poriferans are acelomate.

Some important sponges.

E.g., Sycon, Spongilla, Cliona.
