Sound waves are longitudinal waves. longitudinal waves are in a direction which is parallel to the direction of propagation. For example, If you strike a tuning fork, it produces sound waves. If you observe the waves produced you find that the waves are parallel to each other and compressions and rarefactions are formed. Only in a longitudinal wave ,compressions and rarefactions are formed. Thus you can prove it. Hope it is useful please mark it as brainliest if you find it useful friend :-)
