Hey !!

VULCANISATION OF RUBBER

Vulcanisation is the heating of natural rubber with sulphur and an appropriate additive to improve its physical properties. On vulcanisation, sulphur forms cross-links at the reactive sites of the double bond and thus rubber gets stiffened.

Hope it helps you !!

{\bf{\mathbb{\blue{Vulcanisation\:of\: Rubber-}}}}

  • The process of heating a mixture of raw rubber with sulphur and a appropriate additive at a temperature range between 373K to 415K is called valcanisation.
  • Vulcanisation form sulphur crosslinks at the reactive sites of double bond and the rubber gets stiffened.

Example:

Manufacture of tyre include 5% of sulphur.
