Ganga Action Plan was started to control the level of pollution in the river. GAP was launched in 1986. Some important aspects of the GAP include the following actions:-
1- Sewage Treat before its release into the river.
2- Treatment of industrial effluents in special plants before their release in Ganga.
3- Construction of Ghats and interception at strategic location.
4- Construction of community toilet and bathroom.
5- Maintaining a quality check of water from time to time with the help of various technique involving BOD(biological Oxygen Demand) , TDS(Total Dissolve Solid), Ph and Coliform count per 100 ml of water.

the Ganga in Hindi and in other

Indian languages, internationally it

is known by its conventional name,

the Ganges. From time immemorial

it has been the holy river of

Hinduism. For most of its course it is

a wide and sluggish stream, flowing

through one of the most fertile and

densely populated regions in the

world.

The movement did not build up suddenly. Concerns about the condition of the Ganges were raised for decades which gained impetus in the past few years owing to awareness and support from keen environmentalists.        Ways by which we can save ganga

ᐅ Every city will have to set up Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) to treat its sewage before releasing it into the river or its tributaries. This will have the biggest impact on the river.

ᐅ Flood plain will have to be restored :
