Ganga Action Plan was started to control the level of pollution in the river. GAP was launched in 1986. Some important aspects of the GAP include the following actions:-
1- Sewage Treat before its release into the river.
2- Treatment of industrial effluents in special plants before their release in Ganga.
3- Construction of Ghats and interception at strategic location.
4- Construction of community toilet and bathroom.
5- Maintaining a quality check of water from time to time with the help of various technique involving BOD(biological Oxygen Demand) , TDS(Total Dissolve Solid), Ph and Coliform count per 100 ml of water.
