The Himalaya which literally means the

'abode of snow' is situated in the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and some states of the eastern part of India. The Himalaya is divided into three parts--- The Himadri, The Himachal and The Shiwalik. It is the source of the important river Ganga. It helps to bring rainfall by preventing the rain-bearing monsoon winds from leaving the country.
