One of the most important festivals celebrated in India is the Guru Purnima. It is a festival for the Hindus as well as the Buddhists. Guru Purnima is basically a way by which students show their love and gratitude towards their Guru or the teacher. The festival is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar which is on the first full moon day of Asadh or according to the English calendar, the month of July.According to what Indian shastra says, the word Guru is derived from two Sanskrit words “Gu” and “Ru” of which the former means ignorance and darkness in a person and the latter means someone who removes that darkness from the person. So the word Guru means the person who removes the darkness and ignorance from someone. According to the Hindu shastra the festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated to mark the birth of Guru Vyas. Guru Vyas is the person who wrote the 4 vedas, 18 puranas and the Mahabharata.

Answer:

Guru Purnima is celebrated by Buddhists, Hindus, and Jains every year on the full moon day of the Shakha Samavat in the Hindu calendar. This festival commemorates the goodness of spiritual gurus and teachers as thousands of devotees worship and thank their gurus for enlightenment.

Explanation:

So, let us all celebrate Guru Purnima by paying deep gratitude and devotion to all our Gurus for their guidance. On this auspicious day, we should all introspect our life and pay our gratitude to all those people who have played the role of a Guru in our life.

This festival is traditionally observed to honor one's chosen spiritual teachers or leaders. It is observed on the Full Moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July) as it is known in the Hindu Calendar. The festival was revived by Mahatma Gandhi to pay tribute to his spiritual guru, Shrimad Rajchandra.
