The festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated with much gust and galore throughout India. It is a day when the students or the disciples celebrate the role of their Guru in their lives. This festival is normally celebrated in the month of Ashadh (according to the Hindu calendar) on a full moon day.

On this day various speeches are read out from the Gita and the puranas which tell us how important the Guru is in our lives. One of the most important lines from one of those speeches is given below:

Yasya deve para bhaktir yatha deve tatha gurau
Tasyaite kathitaa hi arthaaha prakashante mahatmanaha

What this line means is that one should worship the Guru in the same manner as he worships God. Guru is regarded as the other figure of Vishnu, Shiv and Brahma who are the Hindu gods and according to the stories that exist regarding Guru Purnima it suggests that one can get in touch with God if he worships his Guru. The above lines also indicate the same thing.

Apart from this there are other speeches too that are read out. In fact there are recitations on these speeches in the programs that are organized on the day of Guru Purnima. Another famous verse that is read out on this day is as follows:

Tilesu tailam, dahhiniva sarpih
Apah stroasu aranisu ca agnih

What this means is like there is butter in milk, there is water in every river stream and there is oil in every sesame seed there has to be a Guru in a person’s life. Otherwise the journey of that person remains incomplete. The Guru is the only person who will be able to remove the darkness in a person. This is the main reason why there are so much celebrations all around India one this day.

Here are some Guru Purnima Hindi Doha

A – “Yaha tan bish ki belri, guru amrit ki khan
Sish dio jo guru mile, toh bhi sasta jaan”

B – “Guru lobhi shish lalchi dono khele daon
Dono bure bapurei, chari pathar ki naon
