Yesterday!
Me and a lady friend were out drinking. We were having a great time and lost track of time. Suddenly, the waiter asked us if we had any last orders as the kitchen was closing. We looked at the clock. It was well past midnight.
We hurriedly called for cab. My friend, Prerna, booked an Uber to her place and then added my destination so that she wouldn’t have to go to her place alone which is in one of the narrow dimly lit streets of Bangalore.
Unfortunately on reaching her place the driver ended the trip. I had to get down as well. We waited outside for a couple of minutes trying to book a cab, but at that hour none were available. The street was pretty dark and devoid of street lamps. There were a few street dogs growling at each other. The moon was pretty low. The combination gave the night a very ominous look.
We both felt strangely vulnerable and felt a chill go down our spine. We decide to try to book a cab inside her apartment.
Her house was old but cozy. We sat on the couch as I tried to book a cab on my phone. The eeriness refused to dissipate though as the light in her living room was dim and we could sounds like repeated knocks on the door. I knew that the sound was either the gate or the wiring, but the sound had no business being there at that time of the night.
Suddenly, Prerna’s phone rang.
It was from an unknown non ten digit number . She looked and handed me the phone .
Confused, I answered the phone.
“Hello, is this Prerna?” a very polished man’s voice questioned in a friendly tone. At that moment it was the last thing I expected. Who was this guy? How did he know Prerna’s name? What did he want?
“Hello” I replied, not sure what else to say.
“Hello”, the person continued in perfect English you don’t hear often in India. “Can I speak with Prerna?”.
I finally found my senses and asked “Who is this?”
“This is Ashish, from Uber. Prerna’s Uber ended suddenly can I speak to her?”
“Oh, I said”, ostensibly relieved.
“Yes, hold on a second”, I said and handed the phone back to Prerna.
My friend talked to the Uber representative for a few seconds. Thanked him and hung up.
I felt very warm and happy that a company cared enough about their customer’s safety to call them to make sure they were alright .
When I expressed this to my friend, she told me it was routine. She had received such calls from Uber before. I soon found a cab and left for my destination pleasantly surprised at Uber’s attempt to keep their customer’s safe .

Answer:
It was april 2011. I was a student in a french university and I sat down as the economics class I was attending was about to begin.
The teacher said "well... I see a new student have joined us today. Don't expect to obtain high grades from me after only attending the last classes of the semester!"
I wanted to explain the situation politely but it turned out I couldn't : "I was an exchange student in Japan and I was just sent back from northern Honshu 6 months earlier than planned. I have survived a mega-earthquake, a tsunami and fukushima nuclear powerplant explosions. I am not even supposed to be here. But the thing is, I'm stuck here with you now and I have to do my best to catch up with the program and obtain decent grades in every subject. Who do you think is the most upset person in this room?!"
I didn't know a simple comment from a teacher could make me say such things! I'm usually not the one that talks back to people. I'd rather remain politely silent when angry. But this time such unfairness was unbearable
