Raja Ram Mohan Roy was one of the most influential social reformers of the 19th century in the colonial India. He founded the reform association known as Brahmo-Samaj in Calcutta, one of the first Indian socio-religious reform organisation. He fought for the education of women, campaigned against practice of sati, advocated remarriage of widows. He is known as the 'Maker of Modern India'.
