MUDUPUR GRAM PANCHAYAT AT A GLANCE
Mudupur is a small Gram Panchayat, of Jagatsinghpur block in Jagatsinghpur district. Being situated at a distance of 9 K.Ms from district headquarter the Gram panchayat is full of natures bounties. In the east the famous Ram Mandir along with the old temple of Lord Jagannath in the west speaks the lovely truth of religion. “Sidhal Safei” a part of river Hansua is flowing in the northern side & vast corn field in the south supplies livelihood of the villagers. The people of the locality live with peace and harmony and stand united at the time of any crises. The panchayat has unique advantages in the field of education, transportation communication and health services along with clean streets, good drainage facilities with sanitary consciousness.
In the panchayat 4599 people live in 785 house holds in nine villages. Out of the same 342 house holds are BPL & 443 house holds come under APL categories. IRWDS, a voluntary organisarion along with 25 women SHGs & different club members played an important role in creating Awareness for all-round development of the region. There are three High Schools and three U.P. Schools in the Panchayat Besides there exists four AWCs to provide adequate facility for educational and physical development of children.
On the first step, at a SHG meeting in the Panchayat, Collector & District Magistrate orientated masses to promote better sanitation & hygienic practices. Jharana INDIVISUAL HOUSE HOLD LATRINE
Dash the Secretary of IRWDS along with SHG members took it as a challenge to make their GP open defecation free. IRWDS along with the members of Women self help group,Social workers,Teachers and Senior citizens formed sanitation committees which paved the way towards achievement of total sanitation coverage. The sanitation committee arranged Pada Yatra alongwith students, Teachers, SHG members aiming at generating awareness among people about Total Sanitation. The Gram Panchayat under the leadership of the Sarapanch, Sura Prasad Barik who took oath in March-2007 had played a key roll in creating awareness on cleanliness through meetings in villages School rallies, wall painting, film shows on sanitation, distribution of IEC materials. Repeated door to door contact by sanitation committees the villagers were told how open defecation causes several diseases and create social problems for women. Members of WSHG play a key role in carrying the message how cleanliness keeps body and mind well.
Similarly, with frequent supervision & monitoring by block development officer & District Mission, installation of latrine in each household alongwith the school & AWC toilets was completed. There are garbage pits in market places, schools & in villages for solid waste disposal and drains for liquid waste management in the GP. With active participation of all concerned the panchayat got the distinction of achieving Total Sanitation Coverage.
