Laxman was a poor farmer, yet the floods left him poorer than he had ever imagined. His meagre belongings were now submerged in water. He himself was on the roof of the house. That was the only place that was dry.

Laxman was quite tempted to drown himself. As he looked, he only saw water in all directions, except one tree, on a little mound. The tree seemed magically unaffected by the water. Laxman was suddenly reminded of the little pouch of magical seeds that his grandfather had given him. Luckily he had placed the pouch in a corner on the roof. He decided to wait for the water to recede and then grow those seeds.

A few months later, Laxman found himself a rich man. He had planted those seeds and they bore the sweetest pomegranates anyone had ever tasted. The king heard of the delicious fruit and told him to send the fruit to the palace each week. His pomegranates were in high demand.

It was only much later that Laxman found a message written on the inside of the seed pouch. It said,

" If watered well, and nourished with love and patience these seeds will give abundant fruit."

It was then that Laxman realised that there was nothing magical about the seeds. It was all his determination and hard work.
