'His First Flight' by Liam O' Flaherty tells about the need for courage and self-confidence to overcome fears in life. A young seagull looked desperately at the vast expanse of water that stretched before him.

His parents, brothers and little sister had flown away and left him alone on the rock. There was no food and he was hungry. He could not fly.

Many times he had tried to run forward to the brink of the ledge and flap his wings. But he was afraid and felt that his wings would not support him. Despite making countless efforts his parents could not persuade him to make an attempt to fly.

He was starving and felt that he would die if he did not get any food. He saw his mother tearing a piece of fish with her beak. When he cried out to her she just screamed back mockingly.

Then he saw his mother approaching him with food and was very happy. But she stopped at a distance. He was very hungry so he dived at the fish. His mother flew upward and he started falling. He was terrified for a moment but then he realized that he was flying. In this way he made his first flight.

The summary of "His First Flight" by "Liam O' Flaherty":

It is about "overcoming fears" in one's life. Every journey of life begins with a single small step. It takes courage and commitment to convert this single step into a "thousand-mile journey". Thus, only through a strong will and indomitable courage, one can achieve their dreams.

The "young seagull" was standing at the ledge and desperately looking at the vast sea covering the horizon. He was hungry and worried that his family which includes his mother, father, and his little sister had left him to get food while fearing his life, he could not make a flight. He thought he was "going to die" there due to starvation.

Even his mother was busy tearing the fish with her beak and did not bother about the young seagull. Maddened by the "sight of food", the young seagull cried to his mother. His mother mockingly screamed at him. The mother gull was approaching the young seagull with a fish.

Seeing this, he was overjoyed and dived at this fish, right when the mother gull lifted up. The young gull starting falling and a monstrous fear seized him.
