Short summary -

• Two artist friends Sue and Johnsy - they lived together in a small flat. Johnsy falls ill of pneumonia in November.
• The visit of the doctor - the doctor visits her daily for her checkup still there was no change in her condition. The doctor noticed that she had decided not to live. So, the medicines are not working to make her well.
• Sue tries to make her happy by telling her to do some interesting things - Sue tells her to do some paintings or drawing to make herself happy. But Johnsy didn't respond. She was only looking outside the window.
• Sue get to know that Johnsy was doing something - Sue noticed that Johnsy was counting the remaining leaves on a creeper plant which was outside the window. Johnsy assumed that if the last leave will fall she will also leave the world.
• Behrman Arrives at the flat - He is a painter, came to see her condition and get to know about her assumption. As the last leaf was going to fall she was asleep, but that night he went to paint the last leaf and it looked like a new leaf.
• Johnsy starts getting well - When she looked the leaf and she saw that it had not fall but it became new and she changes her mind.
• Sue tells johnsy about mystery - She got to know that Behrman is ill as he was wet in the icy rain and catches pneumonia.

Behrman painted a masterpiece and in the process of helping Johnsy he got ill and died. He fulfilled his dream to make a masterpiece. But he didn't know about it.
