Answer:
Good morning to all present,
When we learnt our Abc’s, most of us learnt ‘B’ for ‘ball’. And that is just the beginning of learning the importance of sports in our lives. Therefore, today, I stand before you to prove precisely why cricket should not be banned. To say the least, it enriches life at the national, societal and individual levels.
Cricket is the most popular sport in India. The game has helped the nation make a name for itself in the field of sports. As the national team rubs shoulders with teams from other nations, cultural exchanges take place. Friendships develop and little by little, the world becomes a more tolerant place. On the home front, the top performers become role models for the youth. There are never enough role models.
At the societal level, as is the case with all team sports, the players come from different economic backgrounds and regions. Yet, they learn to strategise and play together as a single unit. Undoubtedly, cricket teaches one the importance of team work and taking responsibility. It also helps improve inter-personal skills.
When it comes to the individual, a person comes into contact with cricket in many ways- watching, playing or working in the cricket industry. In each case, cricket adds to the quality of life. Watching cricket is a good form of recreation. Similarly, the industry provides employment to thousands who are engaged in manufacturing cricketing gear, maintaining grounds and stadiums, providing administrative support to the teams or covering the events. A player though, benefits the most, by being fit and agile and leading a life of discipline. It also gives people the chance to change their circumstances and fulfil their dreams.
Irrespective of what age group or segment of society we refer to, it is evident that cricket has an effect on all of us, directly or indirectly. Cricket thus is not just a sport. It is a force that brings the nation together. Hence banning cricket is simply not an option.
