Keep two potted plant. Keep one in dark room other in sunlight. After a day check the leaf in a iodine solution. You can see leaf of plant kept in open sunlight turning blue. This proves the starch content in leaf.

take a potted plant with destarched leaves ,,,,,,,,cover one of its leaves with black paper on which a design is cut...fix the paper on the leaf in such a manner that light doesn't enter the dark part,,,,,,,,,,,place this potted plant in sunlight

after few hours of exposure to bright sunlight,,,,,test the leaf which is covered by black paper for presence of starch,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

it wiill be observed that only the parts of the leaf, which could get light through the cut out design, turn to blue-black showing the presence of starch

hence we prove that sunlight is necessary
