Show me step by step how to simplify 2^2•2^−3

2^2.2^-3

Both the powers have 2 in their base and we know that if it is in multiplication then we have to add . so

= 2+(-3)
= 2-3
= -1

 {2}^{2}  \times  {2}^{ - 3}  \\ it \: is \: in \: the \: form \: of {m}^{a}  \times  {m}^{b}  \\ so \: it \: can \: be \: written \: as \:  {m}^{a + b}  \\ hence \\  {2}^{2}  \times  {2}^{ - 3}  =  {2}^{2 - 3}  =  {2}^{ - 1}  =  \frac{1}{2}
