hey there,

put x = 1
f(1) = 2 + 1 - 8+ 5 = 0

So (x-1) is factor.

b) f(x) = 2x^3 + x^2 - 8x + 5
f(x) = (x - 1)(2x^2 + 3x - 5)
f(x) = (x - 1) ( 2x^2 + 5x - 2x - 5)
f(x) = (x - 1) [x(2x + 5) - 1(2x+ 5)]
f(x) = (x - 1)(x - 1)(2x + 5)
f(x) = (x - 1)^2(2x + 5)

Hope this helps!
