LET a BE ANY POSITIVE INTEGER AND b=2
BY APPLYING EUCLIDS DIVISION LEMMA,
a=bq+r,where r<=b
therefore,a=2q+r,r<=2
so,a=2q+1 or 2q
a=2q when a is even
a=2q+1 when a is odd
