Note that if p = mv and m is constant, then F = dp/dt = m*dv/dt = ma. On the other hand, you can also say that the change in momentum is equal to the force multiplied by the time in which it was applied (or the integral of force with respect to time, if the force is not constant over the time period).

If the force acts, for instance, for 5 seconds: 50 × 5 = 250. This is the object's change in velocity, measured in m/s. Multiply the object's change in velocity by its mass: 250 × 20 = 5,000. This is the object's change in momentum, measured in kg m/s.

The result of the force acting for the given amount of time is that the object's mass either speeds up or slows down (or changes direction).
