5 is greater than 2 & 4. 5 x 1 = 5. So, HCF cannot be greater. For LCM we have to take their multiples. 2 x 1 = 2. So, LCM should be atleast 2

xmartyyash: explain how
creativevishnu4: the multiples of 5 are 5,10,15.... . But for HCF of 2 & 4, it should be the factor of both 2 & 4. The factors of 2 are 1 & 2. that means 2 is multiple of 1 & 2. Same for 4. So, 2 & 4 are not multiples of 5. For multiples we have to multiply the number with 1,2,3 etc.
creativevishnu4: For LCM it should be the multiple. 1 is lesser than 2. But 2 x 1 = 2. 2 x 2 = 4. LCM should be atleast 2. So LCM cannot be 1 because 1 will not be divided evenly by 2
