shreya wants to fill the water tank of her home,it should take 3 minutes to fill the tank, but she is aware of the fact that there is a small leak at the bottom of the tank,so the tank will take 4 minutes to fill insted of 3 minutes.when the tank is full, shreya stops filling water in it after how many minutes shreya should fill the water tank again?(tank should be filled again only if it is empty)

Answer:

Shreya should fill the water tank again after 20 mins.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • It takes 3 minutes to fill the tank(without leakage).
  • with water leakage, the water tank takes 4 minutes to fill.
  • LCM of 3 and 4 is 12 =TOTAL WORK that have to do.

now, Work = Time × efficiency.

  • When time taken is 3 min, efficiency = 12/3 = 4
  • when time is 4min (with leakage), efficiency = 12/4 = 3

Hence, the efficiency of leak to empty the tank = 4-3 = 1

so, the time taking by the leak to empty the tank = Total work / efficiency = 20/1 = 20 min.

  • So, after 20 minutes, Shreya should fill the water tank again.

Answer:

Hence the total time taken to empty the tank is 12 min.

Given:

time taken to fill the tank = 3 minutes

Time taken to fill the tank with the leak = 4 min

To Find:

Find the time taken by tank to get emptied if it is full.

Step-by-step explanation:

time taken to fill the tank = 3 minutes

Time taken to fill the tank with the leak = 4 min

So total work = LCM of 3 and 4 = 12

So total work = 12

efficiency  of filling = 12/3

                                =4 units per min

efficiency of filling with leak = 12/4

                                =3 units per min

So efficiency leaking out = 4-3

                                = 1 unit per min

So time taken to empty the tank = total work / efficiency of leaking out

  = 12/1

  =12

Hence the total time taken to empty the tank is 12 min.
