Guru Arjan dev Ji was the fifth guru or Nanak who was born from Mata Bhani Ji and Guru Ramdas Sahibon April 15, 1563, in  Goindwal Sahib. He was known for his simplicity, divine nature, devotion towards God and sacrifices.

At the age of 18 years, he was installed as the fifth Nanak and constructed two main Sarovar in Amritsar and Santokhsar. He also laid the foundation of Gurudwara Sahib.

He spread the Sikhism for five years and separated the duties of Sikhism from Muslims and Hindus. This led to the origin of Sikhism as a different religion.

From his time, Sikhs started celebrating Baishakhi as an annual function.

Some jealous people levelled the baseless alligations over him which brought him to Lahore.  In Lahore he was tortured for three days by putting sand on his body, sitting on the hot plates and many others. He was martyrdom on May 30, 1606, in Lahore.
