Solution : let sum of money borrowed by Shyam is P.

Here, Rate of interest, r = 12 % per annum

Time, T = 3 years

Interest , S.I = 216 Rs.

Using formula, S.I = P × r × T/100

⇒ 216 = P × 12 × 3/100

⇒P = (21600)/(36) = 600

Therefore the sum of money borrowed by Shyam is 600 Rs.
