Answer:

This monument is the tomb or mausoleum of Muhammad Adil Shah. It was constructed in special Indo - Islamic style in 1659 A.D. On a base of 47.5m length and width walls all around it's four sides, it

has a dome whose diameter and height are 44m and 33.22 m respectively. In the base of dome have been made shapes as petals of a lotus flower. This is one of the biggest domes of Asia. Inside this building there is a vast hall. There are arcs giving the dome support toward inside, and a whisper gallery where sounds get magnified and echoed many times over. On the four corners of the building there are octagonal seven-storeyed minaret capped by smaller domes.

These towers have staircase leading to the top of the dome. The drum of the dome is decorated with foliation. A heavily bracketed cornice resting on corbels is distinctive feature of the facade. Gol Gumbaz is a fine convergence of many styles located in medieval India. The structural peculiarities of dome, arched, geometric proportions and load bearing techniques suggest, Timuried and

Persian styles. It is made of local materials and decorated with surface embellishments popular in Deccan.
