Significance of village studies in india with suitable examples
Answers
It is very important to have a systematic study of Indian Villages. If India wants to grow, it needs to address the needs of the rural villages. This was first done by “Sir Henry Main” “Village Communities in East and West”, here he addresses the land system prevalent in India and how the power of land lies in the hands of few. Then, it was criticised by Baden Powel stating that a thorough study was not done.
In recent years it has gained its importance and this is done with the motive of reconstructing the rural area. Mr. M. N. Srinivas states that the either a specific aspect of rural life is studied or specific communities and up-liftment plans are done based on this. Example, “Condition of Landless” labourers were studied and now Government has brought in plans were it gives a loan amount of two lakhs to build a house in villages and free cattle etc.
Studying about villages have helped economist, political scientist to make use of the information and proceed further on their research. This in turn helped the government to plan and allot funds to the improvement of rural villages.
