Salient features of Protists are:

  • All members are unicellular

  • Memebrs of protista are primarily aquatic.

  • They are eukaryotic

  • The members of protista have characters of plants, animals and fungi hence the boundary of this Kingdom is not well defined

  • Some protists have cell wall.

  • The cell wall is made up of cellulose.

  • Their cell membrane is made up of lipoprotein

  • Some protists don't have a cell wall, they are surrounded by cell membrane only

  • They have different types of modes of nutrition:

  1. Photosynthetic or holophytic
  2. Holozoic
  3. Osmotropic or Absorptive
  4. Mixotropic
