Silk in the Indian subcontinent is a luxury good. In India, about 97% of the raw mulberry silk is produced in the five Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.[1] Mysore and North Bangalore, the upcoming site of a US$20 million "Silk City", contribute to a majority of silk production.[2] Another emerging silk producer is Tamil Nadu where mulberry cultivation is concentrated in Salem, Erode and Dharmapuri districts. Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and Gobichettipalayam, Tamil Nadu were the first locations to have automated silk reeling units....

India is the seventh-largest producer of wool in the world with a global production share of nearly 1.8 per cent. India’s wool consumption was estimated at 135 million kg. This is expected to increase to 260 million kg by 2019–20. The wool industry is concentrated in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. In India there are 5 states which involves 97% of the silk production. They are namely Andra pradesh, karnataka, tamilnadu, maharashtra. In karnataka mysore and Northern Bangalore taking major role. In AP dharmavaram and in tamilnadu kanchipuram etc.
INDIA is the 7th largest producer of wool. These woolen can be used for making blankets, towels, etc.During the year of 2014-2015 india exported 74.7% of woolen products from the india which is nearly equal to 1.869 us dollars.
