Silk is obtained from the cocoon.
The name of the silkworm which produces silk is Bombyx Mori.
The origin of the silk industry can be traced back to 5000 and 3000 BC. The main producers of silk are India and China.
Silkworms are kept under heat due to which they die and this causes the cocoon to unravel easily.
People are often shocked to know that around 1700 to 2100 cocoons are used to make just a single silk dress.
