HOLA MATE!!!!✌

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:-

Silver halides have low solubility in water because of their covalent character. Also, covalent compounds are insoluble in polar solvent.

Silver halides have low solubility in water due to their covalent character.

  • In silver halides, the silver ion exists as Ag^+ ion and the outer electronic configuration of Ag^+ is 4d^{10}5s^05p^0.
  • We know that the d - electrons screen the nuclear charge from the outer electrons less effectively. Therefore, the effective nuclear charge experienced by Ag^+ ion is more.
  • Hence, it undergoes a change from ionic character to covalent character.
  • Thus due to this covalent character silver halides are less soluble in polar water.
