White silver metal becomes black over time for the following reasons -

• Due to zinc and other impurities mixed in the silver, the silver becomes black over time and looses it's white colour.

• When zinc gets into contact with the atmospheric oxygen,a layer of black silver oxide (Ag2O) forms on the surface of the silver.

• Silver reacts with hydrogen sulphide which is available in the atmosphere and becomes black in colour.
