I am from Shimla and I have been to Kerala ( 2–3 times). in terms of air pollution both states are fairly similar, however you would find the most clean air in Himachal (link). Not sure how fair this study was, tough. But in general air pollution level is same, except in winters when smoke from Punjab and haryana pollutes the air in Himachal.
Lifestyle is very different as one is a mountainous state, with a harsh and cold weather and the other one has plain terrain and humid climate. Although, people in both states are simple even though poverty level is low in both the states (That could be a smilarty).
Music is somewhat that unites everyone, irrespective of the place. Kerala is more into serious music whereas Himachal folk music does not have that solid roots as compared to carnatic music, so prevalent in southern states (including kerala). When it comes to western music scene, youngsters in Himachal are also picking up the pace. Although, Keralites are ahead even when it comes to contemporary music, but Himachal is also catching up.
