Mutiny is “When Soldiers as a group disobey their officers in the army.”

On 29 March 1857, when a young man named Mangal Pandey, an Indian Sepoy of East India Company in the Presidency of Bengal revolted against their British officers. He was hanged to death for attacking his officers.

In 09 May 1857, some sepoys of the regiment at Meerut refused to do the army drill using the new cartridges, which were suspected to being coated with the fat of cows and pigs which was against the Hindu & Muslim’s Religions. 85 Indian sepoys were dismissed from service and sentenced to ten years in jail for disobeying their officers.

10 May 1857, the soldiers marched to the jail in Meerut and released the imprisoned sepoys. They attacked and killed the British officers. They set fire to the building and properties of the British and declared war on them. The soldiers were determined to bring an end of their rule in the country. It was the first war of independence against the British Rule.
