According to question:

 {(x + y)}^{2}  =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2xy

 =  >  {( \sqrt{2} + 2 )}^{2}  =  {( \sqrt{2} })^{2}  +  {(2)}^{2}  + 2( \sqrt{2} )(2)

 = 2 + 4 + 4 \sqrt{2}

 = 6 + 4 \sqrt{2}
